Abstract
An integrated regional spatial planning approach for river ecosystems is presented; - Conservation goals and ecosystem services were combined in regional planning; - Mountain areas were identified as key areas for protection of services and habitats; - Riparian forest restoration in river valleys can benefit habitats and soil erosion; - The approach fosters articulation between nature and water directives goals.
